چکیده

This paper concerns the study of ripples that occur on windward Barchan dunes from field Najaf governorate, Iraq. These consist mainly sand sediments with variable sizes, including medium, fine, and very fine sands. Quartz represents major light mineral in Dunes sand. The prevailing wind direction area is NW-SE. ripple crest series every pattern are oriented perpendicular to NW-SE direction, whereas imbricated groups within troughs preexisting created by WSW-ENE trend. tend be formed shortened occupy prolonged series. All crests ladderback at right angles asymmetry ripples. were noticed fine- grained sediments, which quartz. wavelength ranges 2 – 4 cm, while they 0.1 0.2 cm height. occurrence an aeolian environment indicates a variety directions, influenced arrangements

Calculation of the separation streamlines of barchans and transverse dunes

We use FLUENT to calculate the wind profile over barchans and transverse dunes. The form of the streamlines of flow separation at the lee side of the dunes is determined for a symmetric barchan dune in three dimensions, and for the height profile of a measured transverse dune field in the Lençóis Maranhenses.

A scaling law for aeolian dunes on Mars, on Earth and subaqueous ripples

The linear stability analysis of equations governing the evolution of a flat sand bed submitted to a shearing flow predicts that the wavelength λ at which the bed destabilises to form dunes should scale with the drag length Ldrag = ρs ρf d. We tested this scaling law using measurements performed in water (subaqueous ripples), in air (aeolian dunes) and in the CO2 martian atmosphere (martian dun...

A scaling law for aeolian dunes on Mars, Venus, Earth, and for subaqueous ripples

The linear stability analysis of the equations governing the evolution of a flat sand bed submitted to a turbulent shear flow predicts that the wavelength λ at which the bed destabilises to form dunes should scale with the drag length Ldrag = ρs ρf d. This scaling law is tested using existing and new measurements performed in water (subaqueous ripples), in air (aeolian dunes and fresh snow dune...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Numerical modelling of flow structures over transverse aeolian dunes

Numerical flow models have been widely applied in engineering disciplines for many years. In the last few years, there has been a proliferation of the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the fields of geomorphology and hydrology (see Bates and Lane, 1998). These models enable an improved simulation of important processes providing prediction fields that allow considerable insight into ...
